3# Determine whether LASIK is right for you
During your initial consultation, your eye specialist will determine whether you are a good candidate for LASIK. This means your eye health will be evaluated. Your specialist will assess whether you have any conditions that may affect your surgery’s outcomes or cause any complications. These conditions include:
- Eye diseases – particularly those that result in continued deterioration of your vision and thinning of your cornea, such as keratoconus

- Avoid applying any makeup, skincare products, creams, or perfumes on the morning of your surgery
- Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, or taking medication the day before the surgery
- Stop wearing contact lenses a few days or weeks beforehand. Switch to glasses instead
- Arrange transport to take you home after surgery – this is because you will not be able to drive after the procedure and may need assistance getting home
- Wear comfortable clothing – choose items that will be easy to remove after your operation and avoid wearing any items that cause lint. This is so we can maintain the highest levels of sanitation and reduce the risk of contamination in the sterile surgery suite
